Great Age Movement 4th Annual Jazz Luncheon: Honoring Irma Galvan, Irma’s Original Restaurant and First Senior Playground

April 24

Dear Senior Supporter,

On behalf of the board and myself we would like to introduce you to the Great Age Movement, a nonprofit organization (501(c)(3)) launched and proclaimed by the City of Houston on June 4, 2017. Our governing board of professionals believe seniors need fresh programs that stimulate the mind, body, and soul. The mission of the organization is to develop innovative senior community programs in green spaces and museums focused on health and wellness, fun, socialization and learning. Our Sunday annual jazz luncheon is a tradition in the Houston community. It is a joyous way to celebrate seniors, volunteers, and the community. This year, we honor seniors with the unveiling of Houston’s first senior playground located in the Texas Medical Center.

Joe & Kirin Wells are co-chairs for the 4th Annual Jazz Luncheon, on site at the senior playground, April 24, 2022 from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This year’s event is our most important since we launched in 2017. We celebrate this year the installation of Houston’s first senior playground for public use in the Texas Medical Center; a milestone for Great Age Movement. We also commemorate the birth of a new online program, in partnership with The Health Museum, which focuses on senior lifestyle; reaching thousands of seniors weekly. Houston’s own Irma Galvan will be the recipient of this year’s Carolyn Farb Vanguard Award. Special performance by Tianna Hall & The Houston Jazz Band.

The Great Age Movement is devoted to making a difference in the lives of seniors. Our goals for 2021-2022 include:

  • Install a second senior playground in a high-density area of Houston
  • Produce new livestream shows for seasons 2 & 3 of our online program for seniors called, Great Age Movement @ Home Lab Series with The Health Museum
  • Expand our mobile medley senior workout classes at The Health Museum

Our programs serve to promote health and wellness for seniors and volunteer service for all ages. To achieve our goals and brighten the future of many seniors with our free programs, we aim to raise $100,000 which will exceed our last annual luncheon of $85,000. The great pandemic of 2020 hindered our ability to host an annual luncheon that year. Our hope is to strengthen the social fabric of our community by encouraging friends and neighbors to come together and support our movement.

Please consider supporting our community’s vision to improve the quality of life for our seniors. Together, we can build our second senior playground in 2022 and expand our community programs. For more information please visit our website www.thegreatage.org.

Let us be the change we want to see in the lives of our seniors!
